Your Name(s) on Form 1099 and 10422 CAN’T Be Wrong!
USCPA Sophie Luo (羅霞) reminds you that if you trade in security or fund in U.S., your bank or broker will give you form 1099 or form 1042.
Please make sure your name(s) on form 1099 or form 1042 is correct.
There are three situations below that IRS will think your 1099 or 1042 unqualified, which will make you have trouble in deducting your tax.
1. Your name is spelled wrong.
2. You are married and filing jointly, but the form 1099 or 1042 only shows one of your names.
3. You are married and filing separately, but the from 1099 or 1042 show both of your names.
Please confirm your filing status and your name on form 1040, which have to exactly the same appears on 1099 and 1042. If the name(s) is wrong, contact your banks or brokers immediately to fix it to avoid any tax trouble.
