January 16, The Deadline for the 2023 Fourth-Quarter Estimated Tax Payment.
The IRS reminded taxpayers that those who haven't paid sufficient taxes for the year 2023 need to make their fourth-quarter estimated tax payment by January 16, 2024, to avoid possible penalties or bill when filing taxes in 2024.
Taxpayers who anticipate owing $1,000 or more while filing tax return are required to make estimated tax payments. These payments can be made quarterly before the deadlines of each quarter:
- First quarter deadline: April 15th of the current year
- Second quarter deadline: June 15th of the current year
- Third quarter deadline: September 15th of the current year
- Fourth quarter deadline: January 15th of the following year
If the deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday, it delayed until the next business day.
USCPA Sophie Luo (羅霞) recommend the taxpayers who need to make estimated tax payments but cannot pay the full amount in the first quarter to schedule four quarters payments to ease the tax burden.
