The Important Deadlines for US Tax
April 15th:
Deadline for filing and paying taxes for the United States.
If the 15th falls on a weekend, the due date is the first business day of the following week.
June 15th:
If you are an U.S. citizen or a green card holder living outside the U.S. and have not entered the U.S. for more than 35 days in the tax year, the filing deadline will be 2 months automatically extended to June 15; however, please note that your tax due is still on April 15. Interest (but no penalty) will accrue if taxes are not paid on time and penalties will apply if taxes are not paid by June 15.
October 15th:
If you filed Form 4868 for an extension, the filing deadline will be extended to October 15th which is the final deadline for filing US tax returns. If the 15th falls on a weekend, the due date is the first business day of the following week.
If you are obligated to submit a FBAR, October 15th is also the final deadline to submit.
USCPA Sophie Luo (羅霞) reminds you that the extension is only for filing tax return, but not for your tax payment deadline. If you do not pay U.S. taxes on time, your interest (but no penalty) will accrue from April 15th. If you still don't pay your taxes by June 15, you may be charged an additional 5% penalty for each month until you've paid your taxes.
